The California Fire Museum (CFM) is moving ahead with our plans to locate our building at the Orange County Great Park. A possible partnership has developed with a group called the Fire Services Training Institute (FSTI) Which is the training arm of the California State Firefighters Association (CSFA)
After some talks back and forth between the two organizations it was decided that each would put together a ad-hoc committee made up of board members from each group.
FSTI and CFM had our first committee meeting on June 1st to look into how we could work together to build the fire museum safety center at the Orange County Great Park (GP) The GP gave FSTI a tour of the park and new construction projects along with a look at the land set aside for our fire museum. FSTI was impressed with the GP and the location of the fire museum. We will now work together to iron out the details of how this all will work.
FSTI has some great plans for their side of things including a fire service history library and archives plus class rooms and a conference room to accommodate their needs. We at CFM are excited about this possible partnership with FSTI and see a great opportunity to build a first class project which we both can benefit from. At present we are communicating back and forth to work out the details which hopefully will lead to a working partnership agreed to by both boards. CFM has sent FSTI a number of documents to bring them up to date on our relationship with the Great Park and where we stand on our funding campaign. Updates will follow on this site as we move forward on this partnership and project. We feel this could be something really GREAT for us and the fire service community.

The California Fire Museum & the Crown Firecoach Enthusiasts attended the Annual Cruisin' For A Cure at the OC Fair Grounds in Costa Mesa. For the 11th year we have provided a ladder truck for the flag raising ceremony, antique fire trucks for the start of the cruisin' with a code 3 parade lead by the CSFA Steamer with C4C founder Debbie Baker at the lead. Also the 8 antique fire engines were on display all day. The Cruisin' For A Cure is the Nations largest one day car show. All proceeds go to Prostate Cancer Research at the City of Hope.

CFM at the Great Park
Phase One (2010–2012)
The $65.5 million Western Sector Park Development Plan encompasses more than 200 acres of the Orange County Great Park. The plan is designed to build park space that is diverse in use and appropriate to the funds available, resulting in more than 100 acres of active park space.
The project is expected to be complete in 2012, with park features being opened as they are completed. The project builds on the current park space, which will continue to be open and active with events and programming throughout construction.
The Western Sector Park Development Plan, Phase One includes the following:
Kids Rock interpretive playground near the existing Visitors Center, and the installation of the Great Park Carousel.
The Palm Court & Squadron Complex for special events and exhibitions. Existing buildings will be renovated to accommodate uses including art exhibitions and artist studios.
A South Lawn containing three lighted soccer fields and a North Lawn multi-purpose recreation field suitable for three additional soccer fields. The area will also include the fully landscaped 9-acre Timeline and a bike trail.
Structural improvements to Hangar 244, as well as a Promenade Entry and parking enhancements.
A 1.5-acre Community Garden and enhancements to the Farm & Food Lab as well as an Agricultural Pavilion.
A 14-acre Picnic Meadow.
A 100-acre Great Park Farm.
Improvements to C Street, including a new orange grove border.
Additional access and infrastructure improvements, including shade structures, trees, pedestrian and bicycle access, utilities, water recycling facilities, and additional lighting and parking.
Future Addition, Our plans are to include the California Fire Museum - Safety Learning Center to the Western Sector Development Area of the Great Park. 2.7 acres has been set aside for our planed Fire Museum - Safety Learning Center. We have now started plans to raise the five million needed to build our building on this site.

CFM Board member Jim Henery dressed in 1940s era firefighting parade uniform accompanied his 1932 Ford Model B /Luverne fire engine along with a number of 1940's Ford motor cars as part of the Great Park's "Festival of Time" event held at the Great Park on June 19th in and around the GP Hanger 244. The event ran from 6:30 PM to well after 9:00 PM.

CALIFORNIA FIRE MUSEUM APPROVED FOR ORANGE COUNTY GREAT PARK
After several years of planning, the California Fire Museum and Public Safety Education Center was approved by the Orange County Great Park, Board of Directors, today as one of the first venues to be placed in the Great Park in Irvine, California.
The 31,600-square-foot facility, designed with a mix of exhibits, interactive learning facilities and multi-purpose space for classes and other events, will be located on nearly three acres adjacent to the Great Park balloon ride. The project will be built in several phases.
Phase # 1 will begin with a 5,800-square-foot "public safety education center" on 1.2 acres at an approximate $5 million price tag, with construction beginning within the next three years.
Don Croucher, President of the California Fire Museum, noted: "To be selected as one of the first venues in the Great Park is a great honor. Now the hard work begins, seeking support from all aspects of the community and the financial resources from philanthropic organizations and others required to bring this concept to reality".
The California Fire Museum and Public Safety Education Center will be the first of its kind in California and unique among similar facilities throughout the country. A premiere destination for the public and fire service professionals to engage in educational and cultural programs, the venue will provide a full range of learning experiences, using advanced technologies, to bring historical and other displays to life, and facilitated learning through the use of interactive multimedia presentations and experiences.
As one of the first to be approved by the Great Park Board, the California Fire Museum and Public Safety Education Center will serve as a preview site for those that follow and a partner in developing this park into the greatest urban park in the nation from the ground up.
Spanning more than 1,300 acres, nearly twice the size of New York’s Central Park, the Great Park will be the largest urban park in the United States. Its location, in the center of Orange County, California, situates the Great Park in a diverse metropolitan community of three million located halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego and easily accessible to more than 10,000,000 Southern California residents.
The California Fire Museum Board does not intend to wait for construction to be completed. It plans to continue the community outreach it has provided for several decades and has a list of events to be held at the Great Park in the near future and as the project is developed.
David Hubert, Vice President of the California Fire Museum, agreed with Don Croucher: "We are looking for sponsors, members and assistance from the fire service, related organizations, the public it serves and particularly those with the financial resources to bring the Public Safety Education Center to reality".
